Interior designer Yang Li made extensive use of birch plywood and wood to give these small apartments a cozy look. The apartments are located in the Gangnam district of Seoul, inside a 16-story building designed by Fastfive as a co-working home for young people.
The block contains 140 small apartment rooms, the area of which varies from 16 to 23 square meters, and public spaces (these include a shared kitchen, co-working space, lounge, gym, and roof garden). The goal of the Life project was to create deliberately simple, visually clean, timeless interiors, which gives tenants the opportunity to inhabit home spaces with their own furniture and things.
The designer needed to find a balance that made the space feel like a blank canvas. “The main goal was to evoke the feeling of being at home,” says Lee. Each apartment is equipped with its own kitchen and bathroom. Some apartments are equipped with sliding glass partitions that transmit light, which can be used for additional zoning. Soft spatial elements such as arches and curves were used to add warmth and sensuality.
