Living room in light blue tones: tips for choosing the gamma and 71 photos

In the wrong environment, pure light blue in an interior can look a little naive. Don’t want this effect? We offer to consider palettes that will look stylish and expensive.

Living room in light blue tones is synonymous with peace. For designers, this palette looks calm and noble even in kitsch and eclectic interiors. In the article, we explain what tones it combines best with.

Shade selection

Light blue is a bleached version of blue. It seems that this is the coldest gamma in the entire spectrum. You may be surprised, but it is not. And even light bluish colors are warm.

They, however, can not always be unambiguously called light blue. They are closer to turquoise (mixed with green) and purple (mixed with red). The color temperature depends on the location of the room and the effect you want to create in the design.

  • Rooms filled with sunlight during the day will appear warmer. Bright natural light gives a yellowish glow to everything.
  • If the windows face north, there will be little light in the room, and cold colors will seem even colder and darker.

Traditionally, designers recommend rooms where there is a lack of light to choose warm colors, and in the south – on the contrary, cold ones. In practice, choosing a color is quite difficult. What looks bright and cool in the store can become dark and warm in the living room. Light blue is tricky. We advise you to test the chosen color scheme in the living room before making a decision.

The obvious advantage of light blue paint is its stylistic versatility. The interior of the living room in light blue tones can be decorated in almost any style: from classic and Provence to minimalism and eclecticism. Only the shade matters.

In country style, bleached pastel is more often used. Maybe light turquoise, mint. Pure colors are found in kitsch, eclecticism – where there is an art component. In a modern style, any color scheme is allowed, the overall gamma and shape are important.

Combinations with blue in the interior of the living room

There are several classic palettes that are most often found in the work of designers.

Monochrome

Let’s start with the not-so-obvious monochrome. This is an actual and trendy reception today. Gamma is selected within one ray on the Itten circle. And, if this is not easy to do with red and yellow paints, then blue is an ideal candidate.

  • You can use colors of different saturation, lightness, and temperature. The main thing is their compatibility with each other.
  • In such designs, textures come to the front. Embossed wallpaper, expressive textiles, a combination of fabrics – all this emphasizes the range and sets the mood. The interior ceases to be flat due to such transitions.

Contrast

The contrasting combination is one of the most harmonious in coloring. Picking up a color pair is easy: these are two beams lying opposite. However, you are unlikely to need a circle for matching a pair of light blue – this is a yellow palette. But such a pure combination is rare.

Sophisticated muted colors look much more harmonious in the photo of the living room in light blue tones. This is a pair with beige. In this case, it acts as an analog of yellow-ocher. In addition, it is also basic. So you can safely experiment with the design palette.

Add to the beige-light blue pair nearby brown and blue. It will turn out a very calm and noble design with marine notes. You can do without dark colors and introduce light ones – white, milky, and light gray.

If you like bright colors, we recommend choosing them by saturation. Active mustard will suit intense cornflower blue or heavenly blue.

Triad

Another classic is a combination according to the rule of an equilateral triangle. Light blue on the circle will correspond to pale yellow and pink. But here it is also better to pay attention to complex colors. For example, the same ocher, lemon, and ash pink.

The ratio of colors is usually determined by the following formula: 60% – base, 30% – additional color, and 10% – accents. As a base, you can take beige, white, or muted azure. One of them can become an addition. In modern designs, the emphasis is often on warm metals and wood. But in a cold range, you can also use silver if you like this “icy” effect.

With achromatic tones

The achromatic palette includes black, white, and all shades of gray. They are not represented in the Itten circle, they are universal and can be combined with all colors. True, with some reservations.

The rules for selection by lightness also apply in this case. Dark saturated shades harmoniously look with black and dark gray, and pastels look harmonious with white and light gray. If you like the idea of decorating a living room in gray-light blue tones, choose light colors.

Use of color in space

We have already mentioned the classic color proportions in the design. And now let’s talk in more detail about the options for introducing light colors into the interior.

Base

In this case, the bluish palette in the interior will be the most, it is enough to use, for example, light blue wallpaper in the interior of the living room, or choose such paint for the walls. Not the easiest option, but definitely effective. Not suitable for everyone, it can not be called neutral. Therefore, if you are not yet ready for an active palette in the apartment, it is better to introduce paint pointwise.

You can maintain the color of the walls with upholstered furniture, such as a sofa, armchairs, and a dining group if the room is connected to the kitchen.

As a additional

A calmer color scheme. The base is usually light beige, gray, and white, and the bluish gamma is used more pointwise. As a rule, these are large stains such as a sofa or carpet. In order for the shade to be perceived as an additional one, it should be about a third of the picture, so it is advisable to support the spots with textiles (curtains) or decor.

Decor and details

These accents are an option for those who are not yet ready to take risks and introduce color into the design. To understand whether you like it or not, try it very pointwise: paintings, vases, decorative pillows – any decor to your taste. Don’t try to hit one shade. A couple of tones in equal proportions will look a little more interesting.
