The fashion for lettering – the art of writing ordinary words in the most beautiful letters – is firmly gaining its place in residential interiors, and not just in coffee shops. You’ve probably seen a lot of pictures with inspiring slogans that people put in frames, put on their desks, and decorate cabinets with them. But this is not the only way to use calligraphy to decorate your space. We have collected 9 inspiring ideas for those who love words and letters.
1. Wooden letters
Large letters in the interior can be used by combining them into short inspiring words like “Love”, and “Home”. And you can use them separately. A free-standing letter (which may be the first letter of the name) may mark the area of a child who shares a room with a sister or brother. Another option: several letters can be “scattered” around a room or even an apartment, and together form an important word for you.
Such letters can be made to order or bought in large stores. By the way, there is such an option: to combine the decor with lighting. Then the letter can act as a night lamp.
2. Full wall lettering
Ideally, such lettering is done by calligraphers to order. But you can also try your hand at calligraphy by painting the wall with slate paint, which turns the surface into a sort of school writing board. A great option for kids!
3. Bottle decoration
Decor option, the production of which is almost free. Take dark bottles of wine or champagne, peel off the labels, and paint them with a special white marker, white acrylic paint, or even school putty-stroke. You can use a stencil or let your hand write as it comes. If desired, you can cover the top with a fixing varnish, but this is not necessary.
4. Lettering on the window as an alternative to winter and New Year’s decor
Instead of the usual pre-New Year’s snowflakes, you can cover the windows with cozy inscriptions or lines of poems and songs about winter. Why not?
5. Neon signs
The idea is not new, but not yet hackneyed in living interiors. To bring it to life, you need a more or less empty wall (ideally if it is with brickwork), or at least a sufficient distance around the inscription so that it does not get lost. Neon lettering is not suitable for every interior style: modern styles are shown to it – loft, high-tech, perhaps minimalism. It will definitely not suit national styles and classic interiors.
6. Lettering on the door
Why not use the space of the door to leave important notes on it? For example, lines from a diary or your poems, or maybe memorable dates. Such a door can become a real “star” of your interior, a memorable detail. For example, in this interior, at the request of the customer, the designer covered the door with the names of all the cities that the owner of the apartment has visited:
7. Door decoration
The door can be made entirely of letters. This decision adds originality to the interior, and the texture of the door attracts attention. Unfortunately, the creation of such a door can be expensive.
8. In the hallway
Greet guests with positive phrases, a list of household names, or even humorous house rules.
9. On partition
Such an opening, familiar to us from movies and TV shows, looks great in a studio or a Euro double. The space turns out to be both divided and combined at the same time. And on the “border of two worlds” – the kitchen and the living room – you can write something important. Perhaps a family apple pie recipe.
