Green is the closest color to nature, for the same reason it is increasingly appearing in the spaces of urban apartments. But be prepared: it tends to “grow” throughout the interior. In confirmation of this, we show 25 photos of design projects in green shades.
You can talk as much as you like about the properties of green color, which favorably affect the human psyche: it calms, refreshes, and awakens the appetite. Therefore, different shades of green will equally successfully “take root” in the bedroom, in the bathroom, and in the kitchen. But how to choose the right tone? There are two options: as in the wild – to trust your own instincts, or to trust a designer who will easily “tame” green shades in any room.
Living room
Architect Elizaveta Medvedeva dressed the 50-meter apartment in a rich color scheme: so the space seems more spacious. The main color here is green – doors, kitchen facades, walls, baseboards, and even radiators are painted in it. And high doorways, curtains from the ceiling itself, and cornices in the tone of the walls add volume and solemnity.
Designer Marina Novikova did not dwell on one main shade of green: “We did not plan this, but it turned out to be an interesting combination of colors that folds up when you look from different parts of the apartment.” To the “friendly” olive color in the living room here are added terracotta and rich red shades in the kitchen and hallway.
And architects Dmitry and Tatyana Khoroshevy chose a shade of green primarily not for other colors in the apartment, but for the skin tone of the client. “We always make sure that people in our interiors look good, and in this apartment, they made decisions by asking Catherine (the landlady) to stand next to her to understand which color suits her more,” says Dmitry.
Another strategy was the architect Alexander Kozlov: he made the white color the basis of the interior and placed bright details on its background. So in the living room, there were dark emerald sofas designed by Vincent van Duysen for Molteni & C. “I acted in large strokes, for example, to emphasize the beauty of green, and we added a large yellow painting, this is the work of Kirill Basalaev, with which I immediately fell in love. It is so alive and with different hits of light it becomes golden, then lemon-yellow.”
And if Alexander Kozlov built his house “from scratch”, then at the disposal of designer Maria Nechaeva was a ready-made wooden “box”, where the walls in all rooms were painted in different colors. The designer suggested not repainting them and adding even more color to the interior. The customer did not mind bright shades, so a green set appeared in the kitchen (we will see it below), and the company was a fireplace in the living room, decorated with tiles of a greenish hue.
Kitchen and dining room
When decorating a kitchen in green tones, there are two main ways: to make the walls green or to choose a set with green facades. As we said above, Maria Nechaeva chose the second option. The green set is supported by variegated ceramic tiles, which the owners managed to buy before the start of the project. “It’s not in my style at all, but I wanted to apply it in some unusual way, so the part went to the apron, and part to the decoration of the facade of the kitchen island,” says the designer.
Designer Maria Amelina went from the opposite and played on contrasts. So, the green color in the interior “grew” in contrast to the pinkish shades from the painting “Christmas Morning” by Sergey Nechitaylo. The space was combined with other works of art, of which there are many in this apartment and the view of the greenish roofs outside the window.
But, of course, the most popular combination of green in the kitchen is not with “roofs outside the window”, but with the usual wood. It is found to varying degrees in the projects of Anastasia Zarkua, the Enjoy Home studio (also for expressiveness, designers introduce brass handles and copper dishes into the interior), Pavel Kulakov (he combines facades of two types) and designer Julia Telnova (she has a kitchen with wooden and “slate” facades against the background of a pale green wall).
And designer Elena Kornilova combines deep black and emerald walls with green Brazilian granite – it is he who becomes the main character of the kitchen.
Daria Maksimova also recreates the neoclassical setting, focusing on the green wall with the help of stucco. The hallway is painted in the same shade of green, which hides around the corner of the kitchen, but is visible from some angles of the common area. But the bedroom is isolated, but in it, it is easy to see the roll call with the space of the kitchen-living room – it is enough to throw a blanket on the bed in the tone of the walls.
Bedroom
For the bedroom, designers often choose deep blue-green shades that imitate the forest twilight – what you need for a restful sleep. So did Marina Kutuzova in the project for photographers Sergey Ananyev, and Anna Erman.
However, here it is important to concentrate on your feelings: for someone, the forest twilight is hardly associated with the word “tranquility”. For example, the designers of the Porte Rouge bureau proposed to play with the arch in the bedroom with the help of dark green curtains. “There is a powerful echo in the room five meters high, and it occurred to me to add a curtain to the arch in the bedroom so that it would dampen the noise,” says Karina Zadvina, the founder of the bureau. – At first, the customer refused, because it seemed to him that someone would jump out of there. But when we hung the curtain, he liked everything, the curtain no longer frightens him. “
And Elizaveta Medvedeva in the customer’s bedroom opened a blooming garden: the architect painted the door with baseboards in the tone of wallpaper with a floral print.
Designer Kira Chuveleva completely moved away from direct references to vegetation. In the interior of the bedroom according to her project, green reminds of the East: the bed here is recessed in alcoves, the stars on the ceiling, made of sweat, remind of the ceilings in the oriental riads, and the rich red velvet finish of the headboard and the facades of the cabinets on the sides of the bed creates the necessary atmosphere of luxury.
And the complex pastel shades in the Le Atelier project are designed to soften the bare concrete and open communications.
Workplace
How effectively the green shade helps to focus on work is a controversial issue, but the fact that the space around pleases the eye is already inspiring. To do this, designer Pavel Kulakov consistently discussed items according to the author’s drawings with the customer and “tried on” them not only in shape and color, but also in texture. So, the cabinet in the office, for example, is made specifically for the emerald color of plaster, but with a semi-glossy surface.
Bathroom
Anastasia Stenberg’s customers are lucky: they have a window in the bathroom that is rare for city apartments. Therefore, due to the combination of the rich green color of the room with orange details, it seems that sunlight always falls through it.
If you do not dare to immerse the whole room in a green shade, then you can take an example from Maria Pilipenko: continuing the avant-garde theme of the interior in the bathroom, the designer decorated the room with white tiles, and made the floor accent sage-green.
Antechamber
The hallway, like any other room, green also did not bypass. Here, again, the main thing is to choose a shade for yourself. For example, in the project of Julia Telnova, green appeared after the customer in one of the conversations admitted that the hallway in the house of his parents is green, so this color is associated with something good and native.
You can immerse the isolated hallway in a dark monochrome, then in contrast the common area will seem even more spacious.
And you can combine several shades in the hallway at once, including green. As a result, Elizaveta Medvedeva got a forest again, but no longer gloomy, but, on the contrary, light and fabulous.
