The ACID Shop coffee shop is located away from the busy streets of Madrid. It occupies the first floor of a building filled with historical details, built at the beginning of the last century, so in its interior, the designers of the local studio Plantea Estudio decided to create a dialogue with the classical elements of the facades. The concept of a coffee shop as a place for quiet, friendly conversations is supported by a complex color scheme – deep chocolate shades here are diluted with gray decorative plaster, marble, and plaster stucco.

The historical past of the premises, which was previously rented by a jewelry store, is indicated by the elegant entrance lobby. Deep, curved wood display cabinets are complemented by dark green marble panels on either side of the door. Tall windows let natural light into the interior in the morning. The designers tried to preserve the original finish as much as possible, so following the facade, they restored the decorative plaster frieze over the new service area. They even managed to incorporate antique flooring into the project: perfectly preserved terrazzo tiles were discovered after dismantling the worn parquet flooring. The principle of minimal intervention was also applied to the original layout. It was decided not to unite the two rooms adjacent to each other, but the utility block with bathrooms and storage hidden in the depths of the space had to be reduced in favor of a comfortable recreation area for visitors. All the wooden shelving at the front of the room has been restored and varnished to restore its original charm. For the cash register counter and baked goods display, the Plantea Estudio team chose accent stainless steel. It enlivens the formal decoration and contrasts with it thanks to its modern look. The texture of the wood here was emphasized by the doors painted burgundy. A mirror that decorates the ceiling above the entrance visually enlarges the space and creates a play of reflections from the large windows. Subdued lighting and a carefully selected palette of materials helped create a soft, enveloping atmosphere in the cafe.
