We show what will be especially relevant in the next few seasons, and tell you in which direction Scandinavian design is moving.
1. A fresh take on additional open storage
Open storage in Scandinavian interiors has long been something more than just an auxiliary way to place the necessary. It allows you to give the space individuality, make bright accents and new textures, it becomes more and more thoughtful and aesthetic.
The new season suggests approaching with even greater attention to the organization of wall shelves, racks, and niches. Boxes, containers, and baskets from Scandinavian manufacturers are becoming more refined, better quality, and more original – and allow you to neatly and stylishly arrange everything you need in the interior. In addition, the fashion for an open demonstration of beautiful dishes has finally returned.
2. Hints of the classics
Classic motifs can be traced in the new collections of all major Scandinavian decor manufacturers. An appeal to the classics in Scandi interiors can be guessed in textile design, decoration, decorative details, furniture arrangement, and wall decor. However, you should not be zealous: use the technique as an auxiliary.
3. Plant and flower motifs
In previous seasons, vegetal and floral prints were popular as neat, not-too-intrusive motifs. Now, more active variants of them have clearly emerged; and violent flowering is appropriate everywhere, from table setting to the bathroom.
4. Plain patterns
Simple and light patterns (plaid, polka dots, stripes) are a great trendy way to slightly diversify the Scandinavian environment, and add unobtrusive patterns.
5. Complex light shades
Milky white color does not leave its position in Scandinavian interiors (and, let’s be honest, it is unlikely to ever leave). However, along with it, complex colors of light tones (mostly with a warm undertone) are becoming more and more popular: pearl, cream, creamy, smoky white, linen, and many others.
6. Attention to household habits
Scandinavian interiors are primarily about functionality. It is not surprising that the Scandi style continues to move towards an ever more careful consideration of small everyday habits. An organizer with pockets attached to the side of the bed? Why not. A flexible tray that fits comfortably on the arm of a chair or on a bed? Perfect solution!
7. Accounting for emerging technologies
The Scandinavian design pays no less attention to the development of technology: sockets placed under the kitchen cabinets; lamps and tables and the possibility of wireless charging of smartphones; stands for mobile gadgets with a holder for headphones – all this can already be found in the assortment of popular manufacturers of furniture, decor, and accessories in scandi style.
8. Space transformation
Tiny apartments are not at all going to become rare phenomena, and therefore Scandinavian design offers us all new opportunities for actively changing space.
Sliding partitions, folding tables, as well as special covers that instantly turn an open storage system into a closed one are among the current trends.
9. Visual lightness
The Scandinavian style suggests paying attention to the visual lightness of textures, materials, and designs in order to make the interior even more weightless. At least visually.
10. Combination of open and closed storage
The combination of two types of storage is becoming more and more common due to its practicality, flexibility, and aesthetics. And now – not only within the framework of storage systems but also on the scale of a single piece of furniture.
11. Not-so-perfect walls
The trend, which has been carefully making its way for several past seasons, has finally taken root in Scandinavian interiors: walls with slight flaws, somewhat uneven coloring, and deliberately careless gradients are at the peak of popularity. Which, by the way, they partly owe to the growing prevalence of another style – wabi-sabi (just assuming a slight imperfection, an organic imperfection of the situation).
