You haven’t even thought about it: 8 ideas for decorating a window opening that will decorate your interior

Make mirrored slopes, paint the frame, and decorate a place to relax – we select simple and beautiful ways to decorate a window and make it a significant part of the interior.

1. Make mirror slopes

A simple and original way to decorate a window is to attach narrow mirrors to its slopes. They will reflect the street and sky, as well as the composition on the windowsill. At the same time, they will visually open up the space and make the window a little larger.

Since the mirrors will need to be small and not very heavy, they can be secured using a glue gun or mounting double-sided adhesive tape.

2. Place books on the windowsill

An easy way to draw attention to the window area, which will take a couple of minutes, is to beautifully arrange books on the windowsill. Since this is not a bookshelf or a desktop, there is no need to strive to create a composition of useful and necessary books. Arrange them a little casually and focus on the decorative component: the books should be approximately the same size, with beautiful covers. You can add a couple of decorations to them, such as candles or figurines.

3. Create a decorative composition

This is a slightly more complex way of decorating a window than the previous one. You will have to create a beautiful composition of items that combine with each other. It is important to consider their color, material, purpose, and size. For a long window sill, it is better to take larger objects, for example, a vase or box, so that they do not get lost against the background of the window. If the opening is narrow, you can try something more miniature, such as candles.

4. Arrange a place to relax

This method has different implementation options. If you are lucky with wide window sills, you can place pillows on them, casually throw a blanket, or add candles and books. If there is no such window sill, you can make one. Workers will strengthen the wall and install new sheeting so that it fits under the window and holds up better.

If you want to decorate a seating area, but don’t want to start renovations for this, pick up low upholstered furniture and place it close to the wall, as in the second photo.

5. Introduce plants

This method is not as simple as it might seem. Many people put flowers on the windowsill, but they don’t look very aesthetically pleasing. Try following a few simple tips.

  • Don’t fill the entire window sill. One or two plants are enough for a beautiful green accent.
  • Choose aesthetic flowerpots that match the color of the walls, curtains, or furniture in the room.
  • Evaluate the appearance of the plant; it should be healthy and undamaged, with lush foliage.

6. Put the lamp

You can put a lamp on the window if the location of the sockets in the room and the type of curtains allow it. This solution is slightly different from the usual decorative composition in that it adds coziness and illuminates the space around the window, making it an accent. Therefore, a lamp can be useful if you have a beautifully decorated window sill, window slope, or walls.

7. Hang interior shutters

A very rare type of window decoration is internal shutters. This method is suitable for those whose windows face south. It will help not only prevent rays from entering the room but also make it heat up less in the summer. Also, the shutters are reminiscent of Italian interiors, so they will delight fans of this country with their colorfulness.

8. Paint the frame

Another way to draw attention to your window is to paint the frame a bright color. This decor will be well complemented by bright patterned curtains, colored slopes or ceiling. In this case, it is better to decorate the room in a neutral color scheme, but add several elements that are similar in color to the window, for example, upholstery of chairs.
