Wooden models are handcrafted from oak wood with movable plastic parts. The last LEGO product to combine wood and plastic was the 1130 Bedford Fire Truck, built 60 years ago.
Founded in 1932 by carpenter Ole Kirk Christiansen, LEGO created the first toys by hand from wood – quality and attention to detail ensured commercial success. After World War II, Ole began to use plastic in production.
