Pisa-based brand OFF Giannoni & Santoni invited local duo Vedovamazzei and egg producer Paolo Parisi to create “homemade” chicken coops. In the artists’ interpretation, they appear as familiar household objects, such as a refrigerator, dishwasher or stove. In total, as part of a project called New Egg, the team made 20 chicken coops: presented at the Artissima contemporary art exhibition, each of them has a bold and ironic aesthetic. The objects literally “mimic” household appliances—in this way, the creators promote the idea of a chicken coop in every home. According to the artists’ idea, it can be installed on the terrace or in the courtyard, even in modern realities, in order to always have access to fresh eggs. Although the objects resemble works of art in appearance, they are designed to make the chickens feel comfortable and safe, while also reflecting the individuality of their occupants.
