At the 100 Hooks exhibition in the California Gallery, you can see works by Jasper Morrison, Bethan Laura Wood, Max Lamb, Normal Studio, and other contemporary designers. The Blunk Space project references sculptor J.B. Blank’s 40-year-old solo exhibition, in which he displayed 100 functional and expressive plates. Curator Mariah Nelson decided to replicate this format, giving multiple authors the same task. “The hook is a common, often undervalued and overlooked design object,” she notes. Among the exhibits created by exhibitors are items made from British ash and paper scraps, copper and brass, and bronze plated with 24-karat gold. Designers have turned to both classic and more abstract forms of hooks.
