Armani/Casa furniture at Armani’s Milan headquarters

As part of the Milan Design Week 2023, the new Armani/Casa collection was shown at the Armani headquarters. This is an exceptional case when several thousand people were able to look into the magnificent halls of the Palazzo Orsini, built in the second half of the 17th century.

Over the past centuries, the palace was inhabited by three families: the Secco-Borella, who began its construction, the Orsini, who gave the palace its name, and then the Spanish princes Pio, who commissioned Luigi Clericetti to design the neoclassical facade in the middle of the 19th century. Fashion house Giorgio Armani SpA has been located in Palazzo Orsini since 1996: Armani himself wanted to emphasize the inextricable link of his brand with Milan. The palazzo has been open to the public several times in the past, at FAI Days and at several fashion and city events, Apritimoda and Cortili Aperti. In 2017, frescoes depicting the Amore Trionfante motif (1787) by Andrea Appiani were used for the Mistero Haute Couture collection presented in Paris during FW18 Fashion Week.

The neoclassical façade in pale pink is accentuated by elegantly framed windows. In the 17th-century courtyard, one can admire paired Tuscan columns corresponding to the pilasters of the portico. On the main floor, furniture was presented surrounded by magnificent frescoes, and in the garden of the main courtyard, decorated with stucco, they staged a presentation of the Armani / Casa outdoor collection. The objects were placed on the catwalks right in the halls of the noble floor, where the Giorgio Armani Privé haute couture workshop is usually located. One room was reserved for reissues of cult items made of precious materials, similar to haute couture.

The Sofia chair, Antoinette dressing table, and Camilla writing desk are recreated in new versions with mother-of-pearl mosaic tiles all over, reflecting typical oriental influences in the Armani aesthetic. The pale hues of the palace proved to be the perfect backdrop for a series of teak wood furniture that includes Terence’s sofa and armchair with ottoman, Timothy’s chaise longue, Thomas’s large living room table, Turner and Terry’s coffee tables and Thelma’s folding director’s chair. The surfaces of things are finished with a special decor and engraving. The cushions and seats of the outdoor furniture are covered in tactile, iridescent Armani/Casa jacquards. The upholstery is done in a monochrome manner with stylized palm motifs inspired by the patterns from the collection.
