A lot of money is spent during any repair – designers have a strong opinion that any pre-allocated budget during the work can be safely multiplied by two since it is usually not easy to save money during the reconstruction. However, even in the most technologically advanced spaces, there are ways to fit into the budget. Here are 6 tips to save money when designing a kitchen.
Textured walls
The best way to save on expensive finishes is to simply ditch them. If a textured brick or concrete wall is found in the kitchen under a layer of wallpaper, urgently free it. Against such a background, it is easy to create a bright unique interior. If the beautiful source material of the wall did not work out, you can save money by not leveling it. Just apply the plaster with deliberately sloppy strokes, and then paint. For an uneven wall, dense budget vinyl wallpaper is useful. Please note that a large print requires fitting, which means that more materials will be needed to finish the kitchen. From this point of view, it will be cheaper to use wallpaper with a small pattern.

Hard floor
If you plan to replace the floor, it’s definitely not worth saving on screeds, otherwise, the floor will creak due to poorly done work. Sometimes it is possible to choose a cheaper material for finishing – for example, linoleum. Today it is produced from environmentally friendly and hypoallergenic materials, and in appearance, it is sometimes difficult to distinguish it from expensive parquet floors. Another advantage of this material is the ease of installation and maintenance. Linoleum is good even on uneven floors and practically does not suffer from the aggressive effects of the kitchen environment.
With a stylish ceiling
The most budgetary way to update the ceiling in the kitchen is to prime the surface and cover it with water-based paint. However, be prepared for the fact that the ceiling will have to be repainted periodically. This paint is not very resistant to moisture. An alternative option is to clean the ceiling from the coating and paste over it with wallpaper. Thick fleece or vinyl materials will help not only save money but also create an original kitchen interior.
Budget furniture
Buying a kitchen set is always an expensive part of the renovation process. But there are ways to save money too. For example, IKEA returns part of the money spent on the purchase of furniture through a special offer. And many large manufacturers make discounts when buying several pieces of furniture of the same brand. Do not neglect old furniture. If you have a few chairs left from different sets, arrange them around the dining table and spruce up the kitchen with upgraded cabinets. Often, designers specifically look for old furniture in antique stores to create a vintage interior.
About optimal worktop
You can also save on countertops. The most expensive option is quartz. Slightly cheaper options are artificial stone. If your budget is limited, order a Grade 1 or Grade 2 stone top without grooves, complex or rounded edges, burner holders, or other accessories. Sometimes a metal countertop is also suitable if the kitchen is in an industrial style.
Expensive details
When designing a kitchen, sometimes you want to order something from the latest trends, ultra-modern radius facades, or trendy decor. These seemingly trifles significantly increase the cost of the project, but it is likely that in a week you will get used to this novelty and stop noticing it. The upper cabinets look spectacular, which do not open to the side, but upwards. But if you replace such an opening mechanism with ordinary hinges, the savings will be quite tangible – sometimes twice. The same happens if you order the most ordinary drawers instead of those equipped with a hidden drawer system, glass walls, or various interior accessories. The light inside cabinets or a black dish rack is fine, but if you’re on a budget, you can get away with simpler lighting and metal accessories,
