Digital platform 1stdibs has opened its first standalone showroom in a former warehouse in New York City.
The creator of the website 1stdibs Michael Bruno and his house
The online store 1stdibs presents dealers operating in the art and antique furniture market. The project started in 2000 after founder Michael Bruno visited Paris a year earlier and decided to make European antiques available to American customers.
Now vintage, antiques, decorative objects, and collectible designs can be touched and purchased in New York’s Chelsea district, next to the High Line Park and one of the largest development projects in Manhattan – Hudson Yards. The showroom with an area of 4180 sq. meters is located on the seventh floor of the brick warehouse Terminal Stores, which underwent a major overhaul. The work on the project was entrusted to the local company Davies Toews Architecture.
In addition to antiques and mid-20th century pieces, this eclectic setting features the work of Brooklyn fashion designers Fernando Mastrangelo and Ladies & Gentlemen Studio, as well as brands Flos and Nanimarquina. There are about 50 exhibitors in total. Temporary installations will appear, replacing each other during the year.
