The Phoenix concept, developed by developer Human Nature, will use engineered timber to build more than 680 homes. A new eco-friendly quarter in the British city of Lewes will be located on a former industrial site and, according to the authors of the project, will become the largest and most sustainable such development in the country. Planning permission granted by the Government has taken the ambitious concept a step closer to reality. In addition to energy-efficient residential buildings, the block will include public spaces, hotels, and healthcare and retail facilities ranging from two to five storeys in height. For their cladding, the team plans to use prefabricated panels based on locally produced wood and bio-based materials. The company focused on the area’s pedestrian infrastructure to encourage future local residents to stop using cars.
