KHRAM in the Poltava region was conceived by the studio as a place without direct references to a specific religious tradition, so the conceptual space will be close to adherents of different faiths. The project is an open area with a winding wall surrounding three spherical volumes: each of them, in turn, is intended for solitude, prayer and meditation. When viewed from above, this arrangement of structures resembles a lotus – a symbol of spiritual potential on the path to enlightenment, as noted by the founder of MAKHNO Studio, Sergei Makhno. The spheres themselves are made from a mixture of unfired clay, straw and sand: according to the team, this natural material ensures optimal temperature conditions inside the spaces, and also absorbs excess humidity and air pollution. In addition, the designers installed a niche for lighting a fire here so that visitors can immerse themselves even deeper in a meditative state.
