Lautner’s modernist masterpiece is up for sale

John Lautner’s iconic Garcia House is up for sale for $16 million. Floating over a canyon on Los Angeles’ Mulholland Drive, this structure was built in 1962 for composer Russell Garcia. This striking modernist home is one of Lautner’s most famous buildings.

In 2012, the house was restored by Marmol Radziner, who retained Lautner’s original vision. At the same time, housing has become modern in terms of modern amenities. The support parts have been carefully restored.

240 sq. meters perfectly combine luxury and organic architecture. The house is surrounded by greenery, which emphasizes the contrasting combinations of glass and concrete. The residence is accessed from a lava rock entrance, and a lush garden terrace offers stunning views of the canyons. In 2008, a teardrop-shaped pool appeared, which was built according to Lautner’s original design. The floor is paved with original terrazzo tiles. The residence has three bedrooms and three bathrooms.

This villa has long been not only a landmark object in the world of architecture and design. Hollywood was also interested in its interiors – the filming of the movie Lethal Weapon 2 took place here in 2011. Among the owners of the house were representatives of the film industry’s elite, including Vincent Gallo and Bill Damaschke. “When we first saw this place in 2002, it was almost all in ruins,” recalls the former owner. — It was 25 years of oblivion. Structurally, the house was perfect. It stands on caissons and not a single part of it touches the ground. However, the roof was problematic and the windows were leaking. But now it has been restored to its former glory.
