A new eco-hotel of the Mexican chain Azulik will appear in the Al-Ula Valley in Saudi Arabia. On the territory of Azulik AlUla Resort, which is scheduled to open in 2027, 76 luxury villas, a spa, a restaurant, and a Sfer IK contemporary art museum will be built.
The hotel will be erected among the canyons near the under-construction village of Al Mutadil and the Wadi Al Fann Arts Valley as part of the Journey Through Time initiative, a plan designed to protect and conserve the region. It will be located on the Nabataean horizon – one of the five territories of the Al-Ula oasis.
The complex, designed by the architectural bureau Roth Architecture, will be built in accordance with the main eco-initiatives of the country. Thus, the project was developed in accordance with the sustainable development strategy of the Al-Ula region, the Saudi Green Initiative, and the Vision 2030 program, which is aimed at reducing oil dependence and diversifying the economy. It is also based on the twelve principles of sustainability, is carbon neutral, and aims to create a circular economy.
Organic biophilic shapes, flowing lines, and undulating décor make the hotel look like the setting for Denis Villeneuve’s Dune. It is inspired by the region’s most natural ecosystem and landscape with sandstone cliffs, and natural materials will be used in its decoration.
A special place in the project was given to issues of environmental responsibility and the protection of biodiversity. Azulik AlUla Resort will protect ancient rock art and use the existing natural waterway system for irrigation and flood protection. The movement of personal vehicles on the territory is prohibited, instead, the resort will have electric vehicles and hiking trails, allowing visitors to admire the surroundings and landscapes of the oasis.
