6 types of curtains that are out of fashion and can ruin the interior

Thread, plastic blinds, and patterned tulle are unlikely to decorate your room. Better to refuse.

Whether or not to accept fashion trends is up to everyone to decide for themselves. But if you want to create a modern living space, they are worth adopting. To prevent your interior from looking outdated, avoid this type of curtains.

1. Fabrics and designs with a shiny surface

Curtains with an overt shimmer look cheap and can ruin even a very well-done renovation. This also includes models with sequins and sparkles. Such decor greatly overloads the interior; it can look stylish only in a skillfully assembled eclecticism or China, so it is better to abandon it.

What to change

Choose materials with a matte surface or those with a soft and delicate natural shine (for example, satin curtains). It is worth remembering that it is not the models overloaded with decor that look expensive, but those made from high-quality material (for example, velvet, linen, velour). It’s great if the material drapes well and holds its shape. And as a decorative element, you can choose a classic print, for example, stripes.

2. Made from synthetics

Cheap synthetics will not look attractive in a living room. There are high-quality artificial fabrics, that no longer cause allergies and almost do not electrify, but still, it is better to choose natural fabrics for the interior of a bedroom, living room or nursery.

What to change

The trend is environmental friendliness and naturalness, which applies to everything: from finishing to decor. Curtains are no exception. It’s great if they are made from natural materials with a rich texture (linen, cotton, silk, velvet). If you choose a material with environmental friendliness in mind, then priority is given to flax, as well as non-standard types of plant matter, for example, raffia. Curtains made of wool are also considered environmentally friendly. In addition, clothing fabrics (including wool) drape perfectly and look fashionable.

3. Tulle with embroidery

Standard tulle with lace, which we are used to seeing as a “background” on windows, is now irrelevant.

What to change

There are much more interesting and stylish solutions for window decoration, for example, a combination of curtains with Roman or roller blinds. You can avoid tulle altogether or choose a calm, monochromatic option, such as taffeta.

4. Plastic blinds

Plastic blinds do not add coziness to the space, even if they are made with high quality. In addition, this type of curtain accumulates a lot of dust and must be removed constantly. Given the specific shape of the slats, this is not so easy to do. In addition, plastic makes a lot of noise when opening and closing curtains.

What to change

The advantage of blinds is that they protect from the sun, but a similar effect can be achieved with the help of classic blackout curtains, short roller blinds or Roman blinds (by the way, they can also be chosen with solar spray).

5. With 3D print

Fabrics with such a pattern look redundant and very rarely actually suit the interior. Print strains vision visually reduces space, and deprives it of air. Such curtains quickly become boring, they do not promote relaxation and interrupt other solutions in the interior, including decorative ones.

What to change

It is better to replace such curtains with calm colors and choose a more classic print, for example, geometric or floral motifs. By the way, the palette of such curtains can remain bright if it suits you and your interior.

6. Thread

Curtains on the windows serve two purposes: protection from the sun and decoration of the interior. Thread curtains do not protect the interior from the sun and do not look stylish. This is an outdated design that needs to be abandoned. Among other things, dust accumulates on the threads, they become tangled and difficult to care for.

What to change

If you do not want to cover the window with blank curtains, replace the thread curtains with tulle. You can choose different lengths and models; the tulle will not block the sun. You can leave the decorative curtains framing the window, and abandon the tulle altogether.
